“In Humanity’s Footsteps” is a Holocaust education program focusing on diversity, prejudice, hatred, racism and genocide. Our 2019 Pilot Program was a five- day trip during Thanksgiving vacation 2019. The program was open to students who were high school juniors and seniors in the 2019- 2020 school year.
Following mandatory, pre-trip educational sessions, the participants visited sites of the Holocaust in Poland… including the death camps of Auschwitz- Birkenau and Majdanek… and learned the truths of the greatest crime of the Twentieth century.
Joining us on our journey were NBA Hall of Famer Ray Allen, Judge Marilyn Milian of “The People’s Court” and their families. Both brought their unique perspectives to the program and are continuing their personal commitment and involvement with the program into the future.
This program is produced in association with The International March of the Living, our Poland service providers. They are the most experienced organization for Poland-based Holocaust teen education in the world, having taken over 250,000 students on such trips over the past 30 years. “In Humanity’s Footsteps”(IHF) President/ CEO Aley Sheer is a past regional Director of The March of the Living, an internationally- trained Holocaust educator and is a veteran of eight such trips.
IHF delivered a transformative experience that transmitted the realities and lessons of the Holocaust to the program participants. We provided an opportunity to confront the issues of the subject in some of the locations where they occurred and to meet some of the people who were a part of the event.
Our post- program interviews show that our participants were profoundly impacted by the journey and that they intend to become citizens whose empathy and compassion causes them to stand up for justice and the rights of others.
